A new paper on the achievements of the Joint Action on European Health Workforce Planning and Forecasting has been published lately in the Health Policy journal. The article aims to summarize the challenges of health workforce planning and synthesize some remarkable results and experiences of the project. The authors summarize several analyses carried out in the different work packages. The key messages of the article highlight that significant interest was shown by stakeholders in improvement strategies and practices, and they underline the context-sensitivity of health workforce planning, which requires flexible tools to be adjusted to national and local needs and country characteristics.
